I grew up with arcade cabinets and hard-as-nails early game design that required you to either get really good or find cheat codes (still never seen someone beat NES Contra without the Konami code - I know it's possible) and I was always trying to use harder game modes rather than easy ones.Īs a father I find that I appreciate the high level of accessibility in these games very much now. I'm 44 and have watched the evolution of all of the various Mario games and for much of that time I never cared one bit about all of the attention and effort Nintendo put towards accessibility. This sort of thing is often very much lost in the larger conversation about this game and Nintendo games in general.
